Take a seat

As I teach the art of Ninjutsu I have come across a problem: most people can’t sit down. The Japanese sit on the floor, like many cultures, in formal settings and in the martial arts the seating stances of seiza, suwari gata and fudoza are adopted, all of which are used in both unarmed and armed attacks. We do not have this floor sitting culture so for anyone who has sat in seiza (legs folded beneath you) will know what I mean; the pins and needles as your legs go numb and the pain as you try to regain your feet - like bambi on ice. I live in the North East of England were people rarely sit on the floor; in our culture we stand (i.e. pubs) and sit at tables so we find it hard to get into these seated positions. We should have started an art called Geordie jiu jitsu based on pub fighting (oh wait I think we have already LOL) everyone knows a person that I would class as a social hand grenade i.e. explodes in every social setting. The highs and lowlifes of a day at the Advanced Fighting Centre...

Mal Trotter, Alex Garcia, John Atkin Friday the 28 th of October: Started in the Atkin household much like any other day, getting Molly and Erin, the little sleepy heads out of bed while my lovely wife and partner worked like a finely tune machine making breakfasts and packed lunches in the Atkin Diner Experience . She then made the beds and got the kids in the car like an expert bodyguard team. After the formal de-bus at school with waves and kisses all-round, Kerry and I got home, made our own breakfast and sat down to watch the Ultimate Fighter from the previous evening. Later, Kerry popped to the shops with her Mum and I drove to work, singing along to Rock Star on my CD. Come and fight in my back garden for my home made world championship belt! Bring your friends and charge them £30 per ticket! Every e-mail I open and every text I get sent wants fighters to fill a card up!! There are more shows than Fighters; is it a fight show Gold rush, the chance to make it big because there is gold in them there hills? Every weekend there is a fight show or 2 or 7 in one weekend either MMA, K1 kickboxing or Boxing. (Unlicensed ….then you have to licence them before you fight or they take it out of your purse or handbag). Lads you know that can’t fight and have done little or no training apart from hitting the bag at the YMCA as hard as they can while their friends’ video it for 20secs and then upload it on Face book as if it was a UFC production. Promoters are coming out of the woodwork to get people with little or no training to have a fight and bring their clan with them to support their warrior so they can make a pot full of money!
